The Challenge of Grief at Holiday Time ~ II

Image
Photo Credit: Adobe Photo Shop Art Tutorial Being able to express your grief ~  The Challenge of Grief at Holiday Time ~ I    was based around being able to 'talk' or 'share' about departed loved ones to help a person process their grief, their loss, their impact. Expression is vital ~ especially with young children. A few years back I saw this film clip of a young widow being interviewed. She had three small children. I think her husband had been killed in the war. At Christmas time, she asked her children if they'd would like to draw a message to Heaven for their daddy. She had a particular wall she would put the Christmas tree at, around that tree, placed on that wall would be her childrens' drawings ~ EXPRESSIONS for their daddy, Jesus Christ, Heaven.  They were in their third Christmas season of doing this. She said she was saving and preserving their messages, they were precious to her and if at some point when the ch...

The Challenge of Grief at Holiday Time ~ I

Image
Photo Credit  Adobe Photoshop Art Tutorial As a little girl, my maternal grandfather had a heart attack on Thanksgiving (we weren't there). He died on December 3rd. Four days after Christmas the same year (December 29th), my daddy died in an industrial accident. I briefly spoke about first being widowed young with a child to raise in  The Little Prayer Book That Could and Did . The massive and fatal heart attack that came upon him happened in December, (right after Christmas and before New Years). That particular blog post mainly focused on my late-in-life marriage, the loss of that husband who was diagnosed with terminal cancer one mid-November and died mid-January two months later and my grief.  I am not an expert in dealing with grief. I am quite an expert at having personally experienced the exquisite excruciating pain of grief.  Today, I want to focus on grief, children and...

Blackie and Me

Image
Blackie was my first dog.  Actually he was a 'family dog'.  I rather suspect he was initially chosen to give my two older brothers some responsibility in caring for something of their own and to act as a 'calming' influence to their own exuberant personalities. As my mama also had a brand new baby boy to care for, realistically Blackie became my mostly full time companion during my waking hours and my daytime babysitter. Blackie was my first dog. THE ESCAPE ARTIST ~ Family legends and lore say I made my first escape from my baby crib at age 9 months and made it several rooms away before I was discovered. This was pre-Blackie in our lives. With Blackie, another family legend says I was found a quarter of a mile down a fairly busy roadway making mud pies just off the shoulder of the road with Blackie lying on the shoulder of the road (facing me) curled (curved) like the top half of a full moon as his attempt to protec...

The Aviators

Image
Twitter  blessings ----> THE AVIATORS Wednesday, July 11, 2012 the biggest twitter blessing of the week came while I was helping Taz , Daisy and Buddy @3DogsWhite  with their twitter account. They had received a tweet from  Lolly   @LollyMadonna   about a 'memorial flight' scheduled for 5:00 PM Eastern Time. I didn't understand what that was about.  Me and the doggies stumbled upon something beautiful. Right then it was 4:00 PM Wisconsin time which is 5:00 PM Eastern time. We found THE AVIATORS   (their twitter hashtag #theaviators).   We began to see tweets and retweets happening about a flight mission, a memorial flight for all departed pets and animals who went OTRB <---   Over The Rainbow Bridge and GTRB <---- Gone To Rainbow Bridge   ~  For those of you who do not know what the concept of The Rainbow Bridge is, here is the story. People who love their pets and anim...

The Little Prayer Book That Could and Did

Image
Subtitled: Are You Grieving and Hurting Right Now and Think You Might Be Crazy? Introduction: "Pfwheww"! ~ This is a hard one. I have this story I want to share.  I have been in writer's avoidance of doing so because to put it to words means I have to re-visit some deeply personal and painful places in my psyche and mind and share them. Even though I feel healed and wholeness now, it is very difficult to 'look back on the sad days' so to say.  My main social media is twitter and several people have recently come under my observation at having lost to death very meaningful people in their lives this past three months. Some are folks who don't follow me and I don't follow them, I just heard about what happened through the 'twittervine'. So here I am attempting to reach beyond myself with the hope, this little blog post will reach out, touch and positively impact one person who may be feeling empty, completely alone, perhaps in question of th...
